Gumdrop Cookies

This was one of grandma carol's recipes. Mom would make these for dad during christmas break. They have become a christmas tradition. -peggy

1 Cup Shortening

1 Teaspoon Baking Powder

1Cup Brown Sugar

2 Eggs, Well Beaten

1Cup Sugar

1 Cup Coconut

2 Cups Flour

13 Ounces Brach's Spice Drops

1/2 Teaspoon Salt

2 Cups Oatmeal

1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

1 Teaspoon Vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Twice sift the flour, salt, soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
In a large bowl, mix the shortening and sugars until well blended. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix until blended. Add flour and mix til blended. Next, add coconut, gumdrops, and oatmeal. Mix until blended.
Place Tablespoons of cookie dough on an ungreased cookie sheet, approximately 2 inches apart. Bake for 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
Let cookies cool for a few minutes before removing from the cookie sheet. Use a metal spatula to remove cookies as they will still be fairly soft.
Place cookies on a cooling rack to finish cooling.
